WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Since 2009, it has been compulsory to have health insurance in Germany if you are a permanent resident. For short-term stays (less than 3 months) a travel health insurance is sufficient. If you apply for residence in Germany, you need sufficient health insurance to cover at least basic needs.
The German health insurance system is divided into the public and private health insurance system. In case of illness, health insurance covers the costs of treatment and rehabilitation, regardless of whether it is public or private.
COSTS
The cost of public health insurance depends on your income. Public health insurance (Krankenkassen) offers almost identical prices and coverage.
Public health insurance is compulsory for employees and students. However, if your annual salary exceeds 64,350 euros (5,362 euros/month), you are allowed to switch to a private one which can save you a sufficient amount of money.

El coste del seguro médico privado depende de su edad y su estado de salud en el momento de la contratación. También depende de la cobertura, es decir, de la tarifa que hayas elegido.
The self-employed can choose between public and private health insurance. The advantage of private health insurance is that the monthly premium does not depend on income, unlike public health insurance. It only depends on age, health status and insurance benefits: the younger and healthier you are, the cheaper it is. There are many insurance companies with a wide range of offers. However, you should be careful and choose the tariff that suits you best.
